8 Things You Should Know Before Laser Tattoo Removal Treatment

There are many reasons why you may decide to undergo laser tattoo removal in Lehigh Valley:

  • You got your tattoo when you were young and no longer feel it accurately represents who you are.

  • The tattoo is in a conspicuous spot that is hard to cover in the workplace.

  • You are considering entering the military and need to be in compliance with their tattoo regulations.

  • You broke up with your significant other.

Whatever the reason, New Wave Laser Tattoo Removal in Lehigh Valley can help you remove or fade your tattoos. While you can leave most of the work to us, there are a few simple steps you should take in preparation of your laser treatment sessions to ensure the best results.

What To Do Before Laser Tattoo Removal

  • Sleep – One of the most important things you can do before your laser treatment session is get a good night’s sleep. Being relaxed and feeling rejuvenated will help put your mind at ease.

  • Shave – Be sure to clip or shave any hair that surrounds your tattoo for better removal treatment.

  • Shower – If you can, take a shower before your appointment so you can avoid getting dirty water in your newly swollen pores after a laser session. This applies especially to people who work dirty jobs where dirt, grease, and chemicals are making contact with their skin.

  • Eat – It is recommended that you eat a healthy meal a few hours before your treatment so that your blood sugar is regulated.

  • Wear comfortable clothes – You should come to the facility wearing loose-fitting, comfortable clothing. This will make tattoo access easier.

What NOT To Do Before Laser Tattoo Removal

Below you will find certain things you should avoid before coming in for your laser tattoo removal.

  • Don’t go tanning – Although you may look fabulous with a tan, you should avoid any spray tanning or tanning creams. Make sure your skin is free of these products before your appointment. You must also avoid any prolonged sun exposure or tanning in the tattooed area for at least three weeks prior to your laser treatment session. Tanning will put you at risk for hypo- or hyper-pigmentation. If you are going to be in the sun in the weeks prior to the appointment, be sure to cover your tattoo and the surrounding area.

  • Don’t take Aspirin – Some clients wish to take pain medications beforehand in order to ease any discomfort; however, you should avoid Aspirin, Motrin and Aleve, as these are blood thinners and will increase your chances of bruising. To be safe, refrain from taking these medications for about three to seven days prior to your treatment.

  • Don’t come with fresh tattoos – Sometimes we immediately regret a decision or a tattoo artist’s interpretation of our vision does not come out quite as expected. Unfortunately, there is a waiting period before a new tattoo can be removed with laser technology. We can discuss the appropriate wait time during your free consultation.

  • Avoid supplements – Try and avoid fish oils, creatinine and penicillin 48 hours before your appointment, since they can cause excess swelling.

If you have any questions about something that may or may not be listed here, you should contact the New Wave Laser Tattoo Removal facility to discuss in depth.
